Order receipt

The record Etsy generates for each completed purchase - visible to both buyer and seller.

Quick facts
  • Receipt ID: Etsy's internal order identifier
  • Where the seller sees it: Shop Manager > Orders & Shipping
  • What the buyer sees: order email + the order in their Etsy account
  • Includes: line items, personalization input, shipping address, fees
  • Editable by seller: limited (can update tracking, mark shipped, refund)

Every completed checkout produces an order receipt - Etsy’s name for the order record. It contains everything you need to fulfill: line items, variations, personalization input, buyer name and shipping address, and Etsy’s fee breakdown.

What you can do from the receipt

  • Add tracking information when you ship.
  • Mark the order as shipped (or let tracking entry mark it automatically).
  • Issue a refund (full or partial).
  • Send the buyer a message tied to the order.
  • Print the packing slip and shipping label.

What you can’t do

  • Edit the buyer’s address. The buyer must update it themselves before you ship; after that, the address Etsy shows is the address Etsy guarantees.
  • Add or remove items from an existing order. You’d refund and have the buyer re-order.
  • Change the price after checkout. You can refund the difference; you can’t edit the line.

Bulk receipt management

Etsy’s Orders page lets you mark multiple orders as shipped, but the per-order workflow (add tracking, update note, send message) is one-at-a-time. Higher-volume sellers (50+ orders/week) typically pull receipts via the Etsy API or CSV export to drive packing-slip printing and tracking-upload workflows in bulk.

Tips
  • Always read the personalization field before you start production. Skipping this is the #1 source of remake requests.
