A repeat customer is a buyer who’s purchased from your shop more than once. Etsy flags them on the order detail page and aggregates the count in Shop Manager > Stats > Customers. They’re the most underrated metric in most shops.

- Repeat buyers cost almost nothing. They typed your URL or favorited a previous purchase.
- Repeat buyers convert at 2–4× the rate of first-time visitors.
- Repeat buyers leave 5-star reviews more often (they already trust you).
What grows the repeat rate
- Consistent product quality. Variance kills the repeat buyer relationship faster than anything.
- Packaging that signals care. A short handwritten note converts a first-time buyer into a repeat with measurable lift.
- Post-purchase messages. A polite follow-up a week after delivery reminds the buyer to come back when they need a related product.
- A coherent shop assortment. A buyer who liked your candle is more likely to buy your matches than your unrelated jewelry line.

- Percent of orders from repeat buyers.
- Average order value: repeat vs. first-time.
The shops that scale on Etsy are usually the ones whose repeat-buyer percentage trends up year over year.
