Etsy Ads
Etsy's on-platform paid advertising - you set a daily budget and Etsy promotes your listings inside Etsy search.

Etsy Ads is the on-platform paid placement program. You set a daily budget (minimum $1, no maximum), pick which listings are eligible (default: all active), and Etsy auctions them into search and category-page placements.
How the auction works
- Pure cost-per-click. You pay when a buyer clicks an ad - never on impressions or conversions.
- CPC is dynamic. High-competition queries (e.g. “engagement ring”) clear at $0.50–$2 per click; long-tail queries clear at $0.05–$0.20.
- Budget pacing is automatic - Etsy spreads spend across the day; you can’t bid manually per keyword.
What it isn’t
- Not Offsite Ads. Offsite Ads is Etsy buying ads on Google/Facebook with your listings and taking a 12–15% cut on conversion. Etsy Ads is on-Etsy only and only charges per click.
- Not a discovery shortcut for bad listings. Ads accelerate listings that already convert; they don’t fix listings that don’t.
When it works
- Your listing already has solid CTR in organic search but you want more impressions.
- You’re testing a new product and need data on what queries it converts on.
- You have a seasonal push and need volume now.
When it wastes money
- Your listing has poor photos or a weak title - you’ll pay for clicks that don’t convert.
- Your AOV is below ~$8 - CPC will eat the margin even at low click costs.
Tips
- Start at $1/day for a week. Watch which listings get clicks. Pause the rest.
- Don't advertise listings under $10 - the math rarely works.
