Vacation mode
A shop-wide pause that hides your listings from search and prevents new orders.
Quick facts
- Where it lives: Shop Manager > Settings > Options > Vacation mode
- Effect: listings are hidden from search; shop page shows your vacation message
- Existing orders: not affected - you must still ship them
- Renewals: paused (no $0.20 charges while in vacation)
- Re-activation: instant, all listings reappear in search
Vacation mode is the right tool for “I’m stepping away from the shop entirely.” It hides all your listings from search, displays a vacation message on your shop page, and pauses renewals - but it does not cancel existing orders. Anything bought before you flipped vacation mode still has to ship.
What it does
- Hides every active listing from Etsy search.
- Shows your vacation message on your shop home page (so buyers who land directly know you’re away).
- Suspends renewals - no $0.20 charges while vacation is on.
- Pauses Etsy Ads.
What it doesn’t do
- Cancel pending orders. Ship them or they tank Star Seller and provoke disputes.
- Hide your shop URL - buyers who type it directly still see the (vacation) shop page.
- Pause buyer messages. They still arrive; you still need to respond if you care about Star Seller messaging metrics.
When to use it vs. alternatives
- Vacation mode: 4+ days away with no production capacity.
- Stretch processing time: not the right tool. Buyers convert and then complain about delays.
- Deactivate individual listings: only for permanent removal of specific products.
Pre-vacation checklist
- Ship every open order or message buyers about delays.
- Update your shop announcement and vacation message with return date.
- Set an away message on your conversation auto-reply.
- Flip vacation mode on.
- (On return) Flip it off - all listings re-appear in search within minutes.
Tips
- Schedule vacation mode toggling for the start of your day, not the end. Gives you time to respond to anything that came in overnight before listings go dark.
