Deactivated listing

A deactivated listing is one you’ve manually hidden from buyers. Etsy keeps the listing data, photos, variations, and even reviews intact - it’s just not appearing in search and not purchasable.
When to deactivate vs. when to delete
- Deactivate when you might bring it back. The data is preserved; reactivation is one click + $0.20.
- Delete when you’re sure. Deleted listings cannot be recovered.
Reactivation
- Costs $0.20 (counts as a renewal).
- Resets the listing’s “active since” date for sorting and filtering, but does NOT reset accumulated views or sales count.
- Loses any pending search rank momentum from before deactivation.
What deactivation is good for
- Seasonal products you’ll re-launch next year.
- Out-of-stock items you intend to restock but don’t want to leave as “sold out” (which can hurt conversion-rate signals on related listings).
- Audit and cleanup workflows where you’re parking listings while you decide.
What it isn’t good for
- A workaround for vacation mode. If you’re stepping away from the whole shop, vacation mode is the right tool. Deactivating individual listings doesn’t change shipping clocks on existing orders.
Tips
- Use bulk deactivation to hide an entire seasonal collection in one move at the end of the season.
- Bulk-export your deactivated listings annually - the dataset of "what didn't work" is valuable for product planning.
