Quick facts
- Length: 5–15 seconds
- Format: MP4 or MOV

- Audio: not played in the listing carousel (autoplays muted)

Etsy lets you add one short video per listing. It autoplays muted in the carousel and is one of the highest-leverage adds you can make to a listing - listings with video reportedly convert noticeably better in most categories.
Specs to follow
- 5–15 seconds. Anything longer gets trimmed.
- MP4 or MOV.
- Under 100 MB.
- Square (1:1) or close to it. The carousel renders this best. Vertical (9:16) gets letterboxed; landscape (16:9) gets cropped.
What works
- Show the product moving. Hand turning a mug, fabric draping, jewelry catching light.
- Show scale. Hand holding the item next to a known reference.
- Show usage. A coaster being used under a real coffee cup.
What doesn’t
- Audio-dependent content. The video plays muted by default; most buyers never unmute. Don’t put critical info in voice-over.
- Branding intros longer than 1 second. You have 15 seconds total - don’t waste them on a logo splash.
- Static product on a turntable for 15 seconds. Photos already do this.
Production reality
Phone video, decent natural light, edited to 10 seconds, exported at 1080×1080 - that’s the entire bar. You don’t need a videographer; you need to show the product in motion.
Tips
- Add video to your top 20 listings first. Highest-impact listings see the biggest conversion lift.
