Troubleshooting

Why a listing won't sync (and how to fix it)

Last updated 2 min read

Quick answer

A listing fails to sync for one of four reasons: Etsy API rate-limiting, an expired OAuth token, an invalid or deleted listing on Etsy, or a temporary Etsy API outage. Click "Re-sync" on the listing to retry, or "Re-sync all" from the dashboard if many listings are affected.

When a listing shows a “Sync failed” indicator in the listings table, it’s almost always one of four causes. Here’s how to diagnose and fix each.

1. Etsy API rate-limiting

Symptom: Many listings show “Sync failed” all at once after a large bulk operation, with the error “Rate limit exceeded.”

Cause: Etsy enforces per-day and per-second API rate limits. Large bulk operations on big catalogs can hit them.

Fix: Wait 10 minutes and click Re-sync all from the dashboard. Everlyst automatically backs off and retries - the limit usually resets within minutes.

2. Expired OAuth token

Symptom: Every listing shows “Sync failed” with the error “Authentication failed” or “Token expired.”

Cause: The OAuth token Etsy issued to Everlyst has expired or been revoked.

Fix:

  1. Go to Settings → Connected shops.
  2. Click Reconnect.
  3. Re-approve the OAuth permissions.

Once reconnected, click Re-sync all and the catalog refreshes.

3. Invalid or deleted listing on Etsy

Symptom: One specific listing shows “Sync failed” with “Listing not found” or “Listing inaccessible.”

Cause: The listing was deleted in Etsy, the shop was put in vacation mode in a way that hid the listing, or Etsy’s moderation removed the listing.

Fix:

  • If you deleted it intentionally - click Remove from Everlyst to clean up the row.
  • If Etsy moderation removed it - log into Etsy, find the listing in your archive, address the policy issue, and re-list. The listing will sync into Everlyst on the next refresh.
  • If you didn’t expect this - log into Etsy directly and check the listing status. Etsy’s seller dashboard shows the actual state.

4. Temporary Etsy API outage

Symptom: All listings show “Sync failed” with “Service unavailable” or HTTP 503.

Cause: Etsy’s API is having a bad moment. This happens a few times per quarter.

Fix: Wait 15–30 minutes and try again. Etsy publishes status updates at etsystatus.com. Everlyst doesn’t retry indefinitely - once the API recovers, click Re-sync all to refresh.

What sync errors don’t mean

  • They don’t mean your listing is gone from Etsy. Etsy is the source of truth. A sync error in Everlyst doesn’t change what buyers see.
  • They don’t mean a bulk edit failed. Bulk-edit failures show up as a separate “Job failed” error with a per-listing report.
  • They don’t affect billing. Sync errors are operational, not metering.
